Santa ordered disrobed at Hampton 'holiday' dance
This one is pretty unbelievable. Really ridiculous quotes, too.
Pastors Indicted For Villifying Muslims (Chilling Implications For Us All)
There are some hints that the outcome of the case was virtually predetermined. When during the trial Scot began to read Qur'anic verses that discriminate against women, a lawyer for the Islamic Council of Victoria, the organization that brought the suit, stopped him: reading the verses aloud, she said, would in itself be religious vilification. Dismayed, Scot replied: "How can it be vilifying to Muslims in the room when I am just reading from the Qur'an?"

The charge was filed against Lisa M. Montgomery, 36, of Melvern, Kan., who was in possession of a baby girl believed to be the stolen fetus when police found it on Friday.

Bid for handgun ban faces hurdles:
'How many more Michael Moore films does it take to tell us that the Second Amendment is absolutely archaic, and other nations do it better than we do?' said Mirkarimi, who plans to donate or sell his own guns. 'We should absolutely go forward with it despite the constitutional challenges.'

Mehlman acknowledged that Democrats scored points against Bush, such as raising the specter of a draft reinstatement, which got the attention of young voters.

'I think that was something that worked. It wasn't true, but it worked,' he said.

Lyin' rat bastards... and they even admit it. See ya in May, Mehlman, when we remind the nation just how badly your team sucks.

Atkinson defends right to offend (U.K.):
"
'It all points to the promotion of the idea that there should be a right not to be offended. But in my view the right to offend is far more important than any right not to be offended.

'The right to ridicule is far more important to society than any right not to be ridiculed because one in my view represents openness - and the other represents oppression.'

"
In an emergency meeting, the council also authorized U-N and French troops that are patrolling a zone dividing the rebel-held north from the government-controlled south 'to prevent any hostile action.'

"
U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan warned U.S.-led coalition forces in Iraq that new military campaigns in Fallujah and other insurgent strongholds could jeopardize upcoming elections, according to a letter obtained yesterday.

Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi responded sharply, calling Annan's note 'confused' and saying, 'If he can stop the insurgents from inflicting damage and killing the Iraqis, then he's welcome; we will do whatever he wants.'

Barry Goldwater: Bob Dylan's Favorite Politician:
An excerpt from Chronicles:
"
I had a wife and children whom I loved more than anything else in the world. I was trying to provide for them, keep out of trouble, but the big bugs in the press kept promoting me as the mouthpiece, spokesman, or even conscience of a generation. That was funny. All I'd ever done was sing songs that were dead straight and expressed powerful new realities. I had very little in common with and knew even less about a generation that I was supposed to be the voice of. I'd left my hometown only ten years earlier, wasn't vociferating the opinions of anybody. My destiny lay down the road with whatever life invited, had nothing to do with representing any kind of civilization. Being true to yourself, that was the thing. I was more a cowpuncher than a Pied Piper.

People think that fame and riches translate into power, that it brings glory and honor and happiness. Maybe it does, but sometimes it doesn't. I found myself stuck in Woodstock, vulnerable and with a family to protect. If you looked in the press, though, you saw me being portrayed as anything but that.

Early on, Woodstock had been very hospitable to us. I had actually discovered the place long before moving there. Once, at night, driving down from Syracuse after playing a show, I told my manager about the town. We were going to be driving right by it. He said he was looking for a place to buy a country house. We drove through the town, he spied a house he liked and bought it there and then. I had bought one later on, and it was in this same house that intruders started to break in day and night. Tensions mounted almost immediately and peace was hard to come by. At one time the place had been a quiet refuge, but now, no more. Roadmaps to our homestead must have been posted in all fifty states for gangs of dropouts and druggies.
