Quebec: 'Racist' candy leaves sour taste for blacks:
"The packaging for strawberry-flavoured gummy spiders sold at Couche-Tard convenience stores features a cartoon of a young black man with a gold tooth, earrings and a scowl. On his head is a giant spider whose legs resemble dreadlocks.
'It reinforces stereotypes of black men as aggressive,' said Laurraine Leblanc of Montreal, who is spearheading the campaign with Black Youth in Action and the Black Coalition of Quebec to halt sales of the product. 'And he's linked to a spider, an animal that people don't like very much.'"
